Help Me
That's the progress I've made so far with the scarf... it's the Matthew Shepard Seaman scarf (link is on the right sidebar). It's a beautiful pattern, but I'm using Rowan Wool/Cotton, and it's not very wide (about 4.5 inches) and the scarf gets skinnier in the middle section (where it wraps around the neck) because it converts to just ribbing there...
what do you all think? Do I scrap this and look for a different yarn? My pal lives in a warmer climate, so i thought to use something a bit lighter weight (the coldest it gets where she lives is about 40s-50s F).

Oh, Wow, Cynthia! That's the scarf of my DREAMS! I think the yarn is GORGEOUS. I so much want to make this scarf, but I find the directions so confusing because the Matt and the Matthew are together.
I can't wait to see the progress. I don't think it will be too narrow. If your pal lives in a warm climate, the narrower size will be appreciated--it will keep the wind off the neck, and be just perfect. 40-50 degrees when you're on a bike or in a powerchair is plenty cold to need a nice warm scarf like that. It's beautiful--don't quit! You GO for it, gal! Lucky pal, lucky pal, lucky pal....
If you want it just a little wider, you can still use the same yarn but just add a couple stitches to each side of the pattern. But I do think 4-5" could make a nice scarf for the just slightly chilly neck.
Lookin' good! Why don't you block the bit that you've knit and see how much it relaxes and widens?
This yarn is beautiful and the pattern really is very nice. I live in a warmer climate, too, and think this would be great scarf.
After blocking if you still think it is too skinny, can you go up a needle size?
Nice colour and I like the idea of the changes in width - not too much scarf round the neck but just enough to show off the pattern in the wide parts. Lovely!
