Forging ahead, confused but happy
I've finally found my stitch pattern.
I knit 3 pattern repeats, then someone pointed out it didn't quite match the photo in the book. I reassessed. My verdict? A confusing line in the directions having to do with some purposely-dropped stitches.
But even though it turns out I wasn't quite doing it right, I both like the way it looks and don't want to rip out my progress. So I'm going to have something *really* unique. I'm going to alternate 3 pattern repeats of my "wrong" but nice-looking stitch with 3 pattern repeats of the very similar, correct stitch. 10 inches are done!
By the way, I Y this yarn to knit with.

What is this yarn? It is very pretty. I think you made the right decision embracing your "wrong" way. It is a very pretty pattern.
Thanks, Kristy! It's Chunky Misti Alpaca in "Chartreuse Melange," but the color is a deeper green with variable color in person. It's not quite solid.
