Liesel is coming along!

Ah, I am maybe a 1/3 of the way through the lace repeats. I was skeptical at first, but the pattern is starting to really develop. I'm considering adding a ribbed mid section, where it would lay around the neck like a seaman's scarf, for one to change it up and relieve myself of some tedious lace charts if I hope to make this long enough for my pal but also I think some rib would help it to lay nicely. If I go that route I would also be able to more easily graft a second half so the leaves would fall down either side of the neck, rather than one continuous flow. What do you think? I'd be grateful for any feedback. I am really excited to block it to see the leaves pop! I have a teeny leaf fetish and may need to make another one for myself! :)

I love your Liesel. I have completed 43 inches of mine, so it's too late for me to add the ribbed section now. I think it is a good idea, though. However, I am not sure that it will add length more effectively than lace. I think you get more inches per 10 rows in the lace pattern than in rib. Also, ribbing will probably chew up more yarn for the same length.

I think the colour is gorgeous! Very effective. I could see me wearing that more than the blue/turqouise one I made. I gues I'll have to make one for myself in a reddish colour one day.

I like the idea of making two halves and grafting them together so that the pattern flows evenly down each side.

I didn't think of this until after I cast off my Liesel - it was my first lace project and I couldn't understand why the cast off row was a different shape to the cast on row. Duh!

If you go with the ribbing in the middle of the scarf, you could make it narrower than the rest , a la 'seamans scarf' but that might take away from the whole beauty of the piece.

Personally, I'd keep the lace but graft two pieces together.

Good luck!

Yea! A Liesel scarf. It's looking beautiful.

The ribbing could be a useful addition... although I do think you'd have to be careful about how you transition from the lace work to the ribbing, or else it will look odd at that point. If you can figure out a good way to transition, I'd be interested in seeing it, as I've got a few inches of my own Liesel done, and could incorporate it into mine :)

I would probably vote against the ribbing, just because it limits the way a person might wear the scarf. Sometimes I like to wear a scarf front to back, so the ends flap behind me. Other times I like to pull it around to the side and secure with a brooch. But that's just me. LOVELY work and lovely color.

Hi, I think the idea is a good one, but it may limit the ways the scarf can be worn.

I for one would love to not just wear this as a scarf around my neck with a coat or winter jacket, but I'd love to drape it, like an accessory over a black sweater or to add some color to an outfit. Then I think the ribbed section would not look so appropriate.

I know that doesn't make the decision any easier...LOL

But whatever you decide, I know the scarf in the end will be absolutely beautiful and your pal will love it.

Thank you for all of the great feedback - I sat here and thought, "ah-ha" as I was reading thoughts about the ribbed center piece - I think I will opt to leave it out - but then to graft - could be more interesting...I should have done a provisional cast-on perhaps so the ends would match without the ribbing addition...so many options! Thank you again!
