Bright Yarn, But What Pattern?

Well, I think I have decided on yarn for my pal. I'm happy that she has different tastes than I do, so I get to knit something that I would be to scared to knit for myself. I'm too much of a chicken to wear bright colors, and since my pal is not, I have chosen Interlacement's Toasty Toes in the color 206- Las Vegas Brights. Perfect, I think. But I reserve the right to change my mind!
I have found lots of great free patterns at http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/scarves.php but am affraid (again, I'm chicken) to do a very intricate pattern with a colorway that might distract from the beautifully handpainted yarn.
So, for all you who like bright colors, what do you think of this one? What kind of pattern do you suggest?

I think bright colors like that will show up better with textures than lace or cables. The short row rib scarf from Magknits would be a good pattern.

What a lively colorway! I think a herringbone pattern (maybe like "my-so-called scarf" http://www.sheepinthecity.prettyposies.com/archives/000079.html) looks great with a bright yarn. It breaks up the colors just enough to give interest. Plus it's really easy to remember!

I used to be scared of mixing bright colors and lace (or intricate patterns too), but if you have a look at my blog here: http://tinyurl.com/odqau or here: http://tinyurl.com/s5qzq
you can see that sometimes it works out great!!!

Just gorgeous colors! So yummy they should be edible.
I agree that lace would not necessarily be the first choice with this bright, variegated yarn. Both lace and brightly variegated yarn are focal points, so they can tend to "fight" each other, especially when they are short runs of color.

Yarns with long color runs, such as Tapestry or Karaoke have such a gradual color change that they can work well with lace.

OTOH, rules are meant to be broken, especially if you're good enough--see Eva's blog! Do what speaks to your heart, make up a swatch, and see how it looks to you. If you love it, lace it! If you don't, pick a simple pattern and the yarn will sing a different aria.

Oooh, Mia you aren't the only person to recommend that pattern. I just may have to go for it!
Eva, you have some very nice socks knit up on your blog.
Thanks for the encouragement on the colorway! I always doubt myself when knitting for others, and it's nice to hear that this could be the right color.
