How Long Is Too Long?
I have been busy knitting on my scarf at work during my lunch hour. Was so happy today to final get that part finished. But when I got it off the needles and did part two to the scarf, it turned out to be 101" long! Since I was trying something new and worked with the owner of my LYS on the amount of stitches to cast on (400) I really didn't have any idea how it would really end up.
It looks good but what your thoughts on the length?
Should I start on "Plan B" a totally different scarf pattern?

If it will still be a useable scarf then I say probably just check discreetly with your partner if they like to use longer than normal scarves maybe. I think most people would be fine with it unless it is a really bulky scarf (in which case, if it is too long you may feel like you are buried in it! LOL)
Wow, that's a big scarf!!! They say a scarf should be about as long as the wearer is tall - so if you've got a tall pal it could just be a super-long scarf. (sounds very warm!)
I think it depends on how tall and wide your pal is. I think 101 inches is rather long, but if it is for a wider or taller person, it may be ok. Also, some peopel do like long scarves. If it is that long and not too wide or bulky, she can fold it in half and wear it doubled. Post a picture and show us :)
Well, your pal would have to be 8 1/2 feet tall to have that scarf be as long as the wearer is tall, right? So I think it's all about the drape. Try it on yourself and see how many times you have to wrap it to keep it from dragging and then see if you think it's too bulky around your neck. As nattychick said, if it's a thin scarf it could be fine.
wow. 101 inches is very very long. how tall is your pal? if it's a narrow scarf, you could suggest she wrap it a few times around her neck. but if it's a wider scarf.. i'm not sure.
Well, I would use it, I'm sure. It gets really cold here (Two Rivers, Alaska) and even if it didn't work as a scarf to be worn with a coat, I would probably cocoon in it on the sofa. So if your pal doesn't want it, I'll take it! :p
I happen to be 5'10" and LOVE my scarves to be at least 7 feet long. I figure, that without even wrapping it aroung my neck, just laying flat, that would be 3 1/2 feet on either side. That is not too long. IMHO.
I think it is a question of drama. I like a dramatic scarf that says "pay attention to me" but some folks would not want that much attention. I would love to receive your scarf and would have fun wearing it. I say, check with your pal to see what length she prefers. I checked that with my pal. I was going to knit her one that would be about 50 - 60 inches long, and then I asked her. She said she likes them around 50 inches - so now I know I will be sending her something she will enjoy wearing. We are all different animals.
